The Big Bag Theory

Since so many Sewphisticuts group members are on hiatus at the moment for a variety of personal reasons (job, tending to family, travel),  we decided that programs would have to wait for later in the year when more of us are able to attend.  In the meantime, the few of us that could make it felt this would be a good time to do some charity sewing.  Armed with some nice cottons, four of us gathered to cut and sew bags for quilts.  These are basically very large tote bags that are used to hold quilts given to ladies in the women's shelter.  The bag serves as a nice way to present the quilt, and then later serves as a way to transport the quilt or other personal belongings when the owner leaves the shelter for a more permanent place to live.

We had limited time since our meeting place closes promptly at 8 pm, but the four of us there managed to almost complete one bag each.  Most of us had the bag pieces sewn and were working on attaching the handles before sewing the last seam around the top.  We all took our projects home to finish, so by next month, perhaps there will be pictures posted here of the finished bags.
