Make A Difference Day Update

I wanted to send a BIG THANK YOU to all of you for the assistance you provided in making this year's Make a Difference Day activity a huge success!!

So let me share with you some of the details:

 - a total of 37 people came on Saturday to work on our projects (maybe our biggest crowd yet!)

Volunteers pitch in with pressing

 - 10 walker bags, 29 wheel chair bags, and 22 lap robes were completed (everything got done!)

 -  38 cards and greetings ready for delivery to the veterans
Volunteers making cards for veterans

 - total of 124 hours volunteers spent between Friday set-up and Saturday end-of-day
- hours above does not include time spent by the numerous ASG members who
At the pressing station
donated fabrics, helped to cut,  pin, and prep-sew these items, and participated
in the other various prep activities.

-special shout-outs to the Poughkeepsie Plaza Mall (for letting us use their space, tables & chairs) and to Bob & Sue Frisenda at Sew n' Vac for use of their tables, chairs, sewing machines & other miscellaneous items.  Without the annual support from these folks, we would not have the capability of completing our projects.

Needless to say, "many hands make light work" and I just know our Castle Point veterans will be pleased with our accomplishments.

Update for Make A Difference Day

Final details for our Make a Difference Day activities this year are nearly complete.  Specifically, our store-front location has been named.  You can find us in the former Jumpin Jakes/Hallmark store (across from DeS Jewelers).  Closest entrance is at the center of the Poughkeepsie Plaza Mall.  Turn left and we are the second storefront on the right.  See you there!

Just a reminder, here are the rest of the details for that day:

You are invited to join us in making lap robes, walker bags and wheel chair bags for our local Veterans. All are pre-cut and ready to sew, but you do not need sewing knowledge to participate. Tasks like pinning and pressing are available for those without sewing skills or who are unable to bring a machine.

Come for as much or little time as your schedule allows. Are you a student requiring community service time for graduation? This is a great place to earn your certificate!

Prepare to Make A Difference!

With the annual Make-A-Difference-Day event coming up soon, the Sewphisticuts were busy Wednesday night finalizing preparations.  Fabric has been cut and pinned for numerous walker and wheelchair bags as well as lap robes.  Some other miscellaneous projects were cut and readied for easy sewing  by anyone who may drop in that day to help.  We're looking forward to a successful day of sewing on Oct. 25th at the Poughkeepsie Plaza Mall.

In other news, several Neighborhood Groups are looking for new leaders:  Charity Chics and Valley Stitchers.  The Chapter Advisory Board also has some positions that need filling, and elections are fast approaching at the Annual Meeting on Nov. 2nd.  There is a Sew-In coming up on Nov. 15th as well.

Our November meeting will be a planning meeting as we map out program ideas for the upcoming year.  We had two programs from the last year that we had not gotten to, so Stained-Glass Quilting and Free-motion embroidery are two ideas that can be carried over.  For the next meeting, members should bring ideas for programs, suggestions for where to have our annual December dinner meeting, and any small items that they might be making for holiday gift-giving, to share ideas and inspiration!

We had some show-and-tell - pictured here.  Sorry for the blurry one;  the flash wasn't turned on.
