Bobbin Work with the Garment Gals

This month's Garment Gals meeting had Judy Longacre sharing her knowledge of bobbin work.  This is the technique whereby a bobbin is wound with a fiber heavier than normal thread and the project is sewn from the reverse side.  The possibilities for various embellishments are endless.

Several samples for practicing different stitches and threads

Judy shares a pic of the grommet-topped valance she made for her granddaughter's bedroom.

Spring with Charity Chics

Charity Chics met this month to sew Mariner's ditty bags for the Seaman's Church. They worked so efficiently, they were able to start sewing tote bags for the local family shelter.  Next month they will finish up the bags.
P.S. the shelter ladies stopped by to pick up some items.  The new director was so thrilled at the donation, especially the tote bags and zippy bags.

Taking a break for lunch, and show & tell:

MAY and it's SEW HIP!

The ladies at Sew Hip all happened to be wearing items they had made, very appropriate for MeMadeMay!  Cyndi and Maura have their bomber jackets from last year.....

....and Peggy, Lori and Danielle model yoga pants, a recycled denim jacket and a hand-knit sweater.

They have decided their next projects will be blouses or tops.
Cyndi has already started. She found this fun, striped knit and tried out a new pattern.  Check it out!

And Peggy's newest t-shirt

Peggy recently had the opportunity to attend the Sewing & Stitchery Expo in Puyallup, WA.  One of her purchases included an instruction booklet  from Cheryl Kuczek of Paradiso Designs (www.paradisodesigns.com) for making this very unusual and decorative pocket.  (Yup...that's a sample below!  Check it out.)
