Last November at our monthly meeting, we were setting up our calendar for this year. Being such practical people, we knew we didn't want a program for January that would require us to bring sewing machines, thinking that dragging machines and carryalls through snowy/icy parking lots would not be fun. Someone (Judy, I think) suggested we all make some sewing resolutions for the coming year, and share them at the meeting. Kind of a fun way to see what others may aspire to, give each other some ideas, and by making our lists public, maybe be more motivated to keep some of those resolutions.
And so we did! We went around the circle and shared our lists, and we certainly found some common themes. Out of ten people at the meeting, there were 3 topics that came up five times:
- finish projects
- learn new techniques or improve skills
- sew more often.
Close behind these topics was to clean or reorganize the sewing space, mentioned 4 times. Several of us have determined that we need to lose - not weight, but fabric! Either we've acquired more than we can ever use (is that even possible?) or have built up too much of a remnant pile - because you know that little scrap of red cotton will be the perfect thing for some project, someday, right?
Although we're not publishing our specific, individual lists here, we thought it might be interesting to revisit the topic in July to see if anyone has made progress. Check back here in the summer and we'll let you know how we all are doing!
